4 myths and truths about acne

4 mīti un patiesības par pinnēm

Can acne and pimples be cured in a solarium? Do cosmetics clog pores and liver cause Coca-cola? These and similar myths about acne are explained on the website nra.lv by Jana Janovska, a dermatovenerologist and lecturer of Internal Medicine at Riga Stradins University.

Acne, or acne vulgaris, is the most common skin disease that manifests itself as a disease of the sebaceous glands. There are various myths in society, both about what provokes the appearance of pimples and the easiest way to get rid of them.

What are the most popular myths about the liver, and how much truth is in them, explains Jana Janovska, a dermatovenerologist and lecturer of Internal Medicine at Riga Stradins University.

  1. MYTH: Acne and pimples can be cured by tanning beds

ACTUALLY, very often I hear from my patients who have problems with the liver: "When I go to the solarium, everything goes away for me." In the solarium, a person gets a feeling of pleasure - I'm tanned, everything is fine with me... But - tanning does not cure the liver, it only masks the signs of inflammation. Ultraviolet radiation very, very suppresses the skin's immune system - with the help of radiation, the skin's immune system is finished, and it is no longer able to fight exogenous or external environmental irritants, as a result of which acne flares up again in the autumn/winter season. And in the future, it can lead to the development of new inflammatory elements and an even more severe form.

  1. MYTH: Cosmetics clog pores and further worsen the condition of the skin

IN FACT , it's not, we live in the 21st century, and people with liver problems can choose cosmetics that are non-comedogenic (comedogens are oily and viscous substances). If a girl needs a powder and a foundation, or a BB cream with a toner, she should look for the label non-comedogenic . This means that it does not clog comedogens and is suitable for problematic skin.

* It is important to remember that cosmetics must be removed before going to bed, as the skin regenerates during the night.

  1. MYTH: Coca-cola , Sprite , chocolate and all sweet foods cause liver damage

ACTUALLY , chocolate or cola have not been scientifically proven to be linked to the development of acne. But this is a risk factor because sweetened drinks and sugar sweeten the blood. And the sweeter the blood, the better life for bacteria, which in turn can contribute to the development and course of the disease.

  1. MYTH: Acne and breakouts are only during puberty

ACTUALLY, liver can also be encountered at the age of 25, 30 and even 40 years. Only then is it called differently - rosacea of the liver. It is not only a problem of the puberty period, it can develop in anyone, and not only in "ordinary people" - we can see in the mass media that world-famous singers Rihanna and Britney Spears, Hollywood star Cameron Diaz also struggle with liver.

In the event that acne affects already in adulthood, you have to think very carefully about your diet and skin care. But it is primarily recommended to consult a dermatologist to find out where the problem is - whether it is possible to deal with skin care at home, or whether the problem should be solved using special products that can only be purchased at a pharmacy.

* By the way, a cne vulgaris affects up to 80% of teenagers and young adults in the age group from 11 to 25 years, and in the age group after 25 years it affects 40-54% of people. Until the age of 50, this problem remains in 3% of men and 12% of women

NO WAY

- you should not engage in self-exercise, i.e. - try to push out the pumps, because as a result you will only inevitably get scars

CAUSES LIVER

- follicular hyperkeratosis or skin exfoliation disorder - if the horny layer of the skin thickens, qualitative exfoliation does not occur, mechanical blockage of the sebaceous gland outlet duct develops and the secretion is not discharged to the skin surface

- proliferation of microorganisms ( Malassezia spp ., Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium spp. ) - these microorganisms belong to the normal microflora of the skin, but in specific conditions/situations they multiply too much, causing the development of inflammation

- increased secretion of fat in the gland, or hypersecretion , which changes the consistency of skin fat, causing clogging of pores
