Skinbetter science product results are based on real research with measurable results. We would like to introduce you to a study that compares the effect on the signs of photoaging using AlphaRet™ and 1.0% retinol or 0.025% tretinoin.
WHAT WAS STUDIED?
Photoaging is associated with premature aging of the skin, which manifests itself as fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation spots, uneven skin texture, general dullness of the skin. AHA acids, or fruit acids, have been proven to be effective in combating the visible signs of photoaging. Also, retinoids are effective in fighting these signs, but they can cause skin irritation.
AlphaRet™ (AHA-Ret) is a double-conjugated retinoid that combines retinoid and lactic acid to create a new molecule. AlphaRet undergoes an unconventional transformation process in the skin due to its double conjugation. As a result of double hydrolysis, the ester bonds that connect these two molecules are cleaved in the skin with the help of naturally occurring enzymes. The process of cleaving these double bonds gradually releases the retinoid and fruit acid into the skin, increasing efficacy and reducing potential irritation.
PROGRESS OF THE RESEARCH
The study lasted 12 weeks and included 48 women, or subjects with moderate to severe photoaging. Average age of subjects: 55 years; most subjects had skin phototype II according to the Fitzpatrick scale.
During the study period, subjects covered one side of their face with AHA-Ret, while the other side of their face was covered with 1.0% retinol or 0.025% tretinoin.
RESULTS
The AHA-Ret results after four, eight and twelve weeks can be seen in the table below.
Changes in skin moisture levels were recorded using Nova Meter measurements. The results can be seen in the table below.
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
- AHA-Ret demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in overall skin appearance compared to baseline at weeks 4, 8 and 12.
- AHA-Ret significantly reduced fine lines and wrinkles, dyschromia, improved skin tone and reduced pore size within 12 weeks.
- AHA-Ret demonstrated a significant reduction in dyschromia and skin tone changes compared to retinol at 4 weeks.
- AHA-Ret demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in erythema compared to retinol at 8 and 12 weeks.
- At weeks 4 and 8, AHA-Ret demonstrated similar results in smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing dyschromia, improving skin tone, and preventing erythema as 0.025% tretinoin.
- AHA-Ret produced less irritation compared to 1.0% retinol and 0.025% tretinoin.
- With AHA-Ret treatment, rapid, progressive improvements in photoaging were achieved, demonstrating a new breakthrough in skin rejuvenation.
