During lipolysis, triglycerides are split into two parts: glycerol and fatty acids. These fatty acids have a limited ability to enter the mitochondrion, so this step requires a physiological carrier. This carrier is L-carnitine, which is to thank for the fact that fatty acids are activated and diverted to oxidation and are not used for the formation of new triglycerides in the body, which would lead to reduced cytoplasmic bioavailability or to reduce the content of fatty acids. Thanks to this, the effectiveness of other lipolytic products is improved.
